Take a Step of Faith in Spite of Your Fear
We all have fears.
Some keep us up at night. Some keep us silent when we should speak. Some keep us stuck when God is saying “Move.”
But here’s the truth: Fear grows when you feed it… and it dies when you starve it by trusting God.
Today we’re learning how to punch fear in the face with bold, Bible-soaked faith.
The Early Church Didn’t Pray for Safety — They Prayed for BOLDNESS 🦁
“And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness.”— Acts 4:29 (ESV)
Peter and John had just been threatened by the most powerful people in Jerusalem. They could have prayed, “Lord, make the threats go away.”
Instead they prayed, “Lord, make us braver.”
That’s next-level faith.
When the prayer meeting ended, the building shook, they were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word with even greater boldness (Acts 4:31).
Fear Is a Liar That Only Grows When You Obey It 😈
Every time you give in to fear, it gets louder.
- Refuse to share your faith at work → fear grows
- Avoid that hard conversation fear grows
- Say no to the dream God put in your heart fear grows
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
— 2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)
Fear is not from God. Period.
So why do we keep letting it be the boss of us?
The Secret: God Parts the Water AFTER You Step In 🌊
Remember Elijah and Elisha?
“And when they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, ‘Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.’ And Elisha said, ‘Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.’”
— 2 Kings 2:9 (ESV)
How did they cross the Jordan?
Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up, hit the water… and only THEN did it parted.
God rarely shows you the whole path. He asks for the first obedient step.
You won’t feel brave.
You won’t have all the answers.
You just have to move.
Real-Life Proof This Works
- Daniel in the lions’ den → stepped in faith → lions shut their mouths (Daniel 6)
- Esther approaching the king → risked her life → saved her people (Esther 4:16)
- Peter walking on water → stepped out of the boat → literally walked on the impossible (Matthew 14:29)
Every single time someone chose faith over fear, fear lost.
Your Turn — 3 Questions to Destroy Fear Today ✝️
- Where have you let fear grow because you keep saying “later” to God?
- Where have you seen fear shrink the moment you obeyed anyway?
- What’s the ONE step God is asking you to take this week — even though your knees are shaking?
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
— Joshua 1:9 (ESV)
A Prayer to Slay Fear Right Now
Lord Jesus,
I’m tired of fear calling the shots in my life.
You did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.
Today I choose boldness.
Show me the step You want me to take.
I trust that when I move, You’ll part the waters, shut the lions’ mouths, and calm the storm.
Fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit.
Let me speak Your word with ridiculous, unstoppable courage.
In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen. 🕊️
Now GO TAKE THAT STEP.
Fear is waiting to see if you’re serious.
You’ve got this — because HE’S got you. 💪
