Trust God’s Wisdom, Not Your Feelings

Ever made a decision that felt 100% right in the moment… only to crash and burn spectacularly later?
Yeah, me too. 😩

Feelings are professional liars. They’ll whisper “This is love!” while you’re sliding into a toxic relationship, or scream “This job is your destiny!” right before the worst career move of your life.

The Bible doesn’t sugarcoat it:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.”
— Proverbs 3:5–7 (ESV) 🔥

That verse just punched feelings right in the face.

Why Your Gut Can’t Always Be Trusted 🧠💔

  • That “spark” in a new relationship? Could be chemistry… or just adrenaline and loneliness talking.
  • That “peace” about a big purchase? Might be impulse dressed up in spiritual language.
  • That “strong conviction” to quit your job on the spot? Could be pride or fear wearing a holy mask.

Your heart is not the Holy Spirit.
Jeremiah 17:9 drops the hammer:

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” (ESV)

Ouch. Truth hurts.

How to Actually Get God’s Wisdom (It’s Simpler Than You Think) 🚪

God isn’t hiding His will like a cosmic Easter egg hunt. He literally begs us to ask.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”
— James 1:5 (ESV) 🎁

He’s not rolling His eyes when you come with the same question for the 17th time. He gives generously and without reproach.

Here’s the practical game plan:

  1. Pray – Talk to God like He’s in the passenger seat (because He is).
  2. Open the Bible – Feelings lie. The Word doesn’t.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (ESV) 💡
  3. Wait & Obey – Wisdom usually shows up as a quiet “yes,” “no,” or “not yet.”
  4. Get godly counsel – Stop asking TikTok. Ask people who actually love Jesus and your soul.
“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” — Proverbs 11:14 (ESV)

Real Talk: What Happens When We Ignore This?

  • Marriages that felt “meant to be” end in divorce courts.
  • Careers that felt like “calling” leave you burned out and broke.
  • Ministries that felt “anointed” collapse in scandal because nobody asked God first.

But when we trust His wisdom over our feelings?
Doors open. Peace stays. Regret shrinks. Blessing flows.

“Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!”
— Psalm 34:9 (ESV)

Let’s Talk About It 👇 (Answer in the comments!)

  1. What’s one time you followed your feelings and it went horribly wrong?
  2. How do you personally hear God’s voice most clearly? (Scripture? Prayer? Worship? A holy 2x4 to the head? 😅)
  3. What’s stopping you from spending daily time in God’s Word right now?

Prayer to Trade Feelings for God’s Wisdom

Father,
I confess—I’ve trusted my feelings way too many times and ended up lost, hurt, and ashamed. Forgive me for leaning on my own understanding. Today I choose to trust YOU with all my heart. Silence every lying emotion that’s leading me astray. Replace my confusion with Your clarity, my fear with Your peace, and my impulses with Your timing.
Give me wisdom generously—without holding back. Open my eyes to see Your path, even when it doesn’t “feel” right at first. I want Your will, not mine.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen. 🙏

Drop an 🙌 if you’re choosing God’s wisdom over feelings today!
